UV Printing, UV-DTF & Direct-to-Object — When and Why

UV printing has opened up a huge range of personalisation and short-run manufacturing opportunities.
But direct UV printing and UV-DTF solve different production problems.
With direct-to-object printing, the product is placed inside or underneath the printer and ink is printed directly onto the surface.
UV-DTF prints onto a transfer system that is later applied to the finished product.
Direct printing can provide excellent registration, white ink, varnish and layered effects. UV-DTF can make it easier to decorate objects that are difficult to position or unsuitable for direct printing.
Neither process automatically replaces the other.
This guide explains when direct UV printing makes sense, when UV-DTF may be more practical and what businesses should consider before choosing a workflow for merchandise, promotional products and personalised items.
