DTG Pretreatment — The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

Pretreatment can make the difference between a bright, durable DTG print and a disappointing one.

It affects white ink opacity, colour, wash durability, surface quality and how the print sits on the garment.

Too little pretreatment can create weak prints. Too much can create its own problems. Uneven application can make even a good printer appear inconsistent.

This guide explains the good, the bad and the ugly of DTG pretreatment, including OEM pretreatment products, application and curing, common production mistakes and why Machines Plus uses Image Armor during many of our demonstrations and installations.

We do not believe one chemical is automatically correct for every garment or every production environment.

We use products that have demonstrated reliable, repeatable results in the type of production work we are trying to achieve.
